Curiosidades: Jim Croce, assim como vários de seus contemporâneos, não tinha interesse nenhum em servir na guerra do Vietnã. Porém, apesar de seus esforços em contrário, Jim foi chamado a serviço e a realizar treinamento em Fort Dix, Nova Jersey. Lá foi alocado na escola de lineman, o responsável por passar informações via telefone (rádio), onde conheceu um homem chamado Leroy Brown. Já na primeira semana de treinamentos Leroy se dizia cansado e entrou em AWOL (um tipo de deserção temporária). No final do mês quando Leroy Brown foi buscar seu pagamento, ele obviamente foi preso. Jim Croce: "Apenas de ouvi-lo falar e de ver como ele era "mau", eu sabia que um dia eu iria escrever uma música sobre ele", o que aconteceu no ano de 1973.
